Three seaside properties at prices which are a drop in the ocean

If isolation is making you yearn to stroll on a beach once again, now could be the time to invest in a seaside retreat.

But if you believe holiday hideaways are just for the super-rich, SDL Auctions is urging you to think again, as it is selling three coastal properties at prices which are a drop in the ocean.

All less than five miles from the sea, the three properties have *guide prices of less than £40,000+ and can be purchased without leaving the house, too – so you can be beachbound with your bucket and spade as soon as lockdown ends.

They are all going under the hammer in SDL Auctions’ first national property auction, which will be conducted by managing director and auctioneer Andrew Parker from the company’s head office auction studio on Thursday 30th April. The auction will be live-streamed via the website, with remote bidding by telephone, proxy or over the internet.

The lowest-priced property, with a guide price of £15,000+, is 16a Tennyson Road in Mablethorpe, a vacant flat on the east coast, around 19 miles north of Skegness.

Although requiring some modernisation, auctioneers say the flat would be suitable for several uses, particularly as high-yield buy-to-let investment – with a potential rental income of £450 per calendar month.

Andy Thompson, head of auctions North West, said: “With two bedrooms, this would make an ideal rental property, or a lock-up-and-leave property with easy access to the beach. It’s just a three-minute walk to beautiful sandy beaches, fun fairs and other attractions, and an equally short walk into the town centre, which has a great range of amenities. With a bit of work, this could make an excellent coastal hideaway, at a very attractive price, too.”

The flat, which will be sold with a new 125-year lease on completion, comprises a hall, kitchen/diner, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Outside there is a shared rear garden.

In the north-west, sandwiched between the Lake District National Park and the St Bees Head Heritage Coast, is an attractive pale blue mid-terraced house with a guide price of £27,000+.

57 Bowthorn Road in Cleator Moor, Cumbria is close to shops and amenities and features, on the ground floor, a reception room and kitchen, with two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor, and a further room in the attic. It has a garden at the rear.

The freehold property is less than five miles from Fleswick Beach at the start of the renowned 182-mile Coast to Coast Walk, and around a 20-minute drive to Ennerdale Water, the most westerly of the national park’s lakes.

Andy said: “This property gives you the best of all worlds. Lakes and mountains in the east, beautiful rugged coastline in the west, and shops and amenities on the doorstep. Prices in the Lake District are unaffordable for many, but this allows you to get close without paying the premium.”

The third seaside property is a well presented modern apartment in the UK’s most popular holiday destination, Blackpool – but the price tag remains within reach of many investors.

Ready to move into immediately, 14 Naventis Court, Singleton Street in Blackpool is a first-floor flat in a purpose-built block within walking distance of Central Pier and the town’s numerous restaurants, shops, bars and entertainment centres.

The flat, which has a guide price of £33,500+, has an open-plan kitchen/lounge, one double bedroom and a shower room and is sold with around 100 years of a 125-year lease remaining. Fixtures and fittings are available to purchase separately, if required.

Andy added: “This is a really smart and attractive flat in a location which will appeal to homeowners as an attractively priced starter home, to landlords looking for a high-yielding private rental property, with a predicted income in the region of £100 per week, and to private buyers looking for a lock-up-and-leave property. It would make a great little property for weekend visits to the resort.”

The three properties are among 115 lots which will be going under the hammer in SDL Auctions’ first national property auction, which will be held via video stream to follow social distancing guidelines. Properties being sold include houses, flats, commercial investments and land, stretching from the far north of Scotland down to the south of England.

The auction takes place on Thursday 30th April from 10.30am and can be watched online in real time. To find out more about any of the properties, to watch live or to register to bid remotely, please click here or call the team on 0161 774 7333.
