If you’d like to bid on a property in one of our live streamed auctions, you’ll need to register. You can do this by heading over to our bidding registration page, where you’ll be taken to the Essential Information Group (EIG) website and prompted to log in to your Auction Passport account. If you’ve downloaded a legal pack, you’re likely to already have an Auction Passport account. If you haven’t, you’ll have the opportunity to create one. After accepting our terms and conditions, you’ll be asked how you’d like to bid – online, on the phone or by proxy. If you’re not sure which method to use for your bidding, you’ll find a description of each option below to help you make a more informed choice.
You will need to complete the registration form at least 24 hours before your selected auction date.
You only need to register to bid via the EIG website if you wish to bid in our live streamed auction. If you would simply like to watch the auction online but do not wish to bid, you can join our auction live stream. It’s free to watch, and you do not need to log in.
We’re now part of BTG Eddisons Property Auctions
We at SDL, Pugh, and Mark Jenkinson, have unified our brands under BTG Eddisons Property Auctions. This means bigger auctions, even more expertise to draw on from our growing team of auctioneers, and a brand new website. You can continue your journey to register to bid over there, or head straight to the bidding registration page on the EIG website – both routes will take you over to the new BTG Eddisons Property Auctions website once you’ve finished registering.
Methods of bidding
Proxy bidding
Proxy bidding means that the auctioneer bids on properties on your behalf, in line with the bidding in the auction. You provide the auctioneer with your maximum bid, and they will try to secure the property at or below this price. If interest in the room exceeds your maximum bid, your proxy bidding will cease as the auctioneer won’t bid beyond the amount you specified. For more details, read through our step-by-step-guide to proxy bidding which covers the process from registration to completion of the purchase.
Internet bidding
Internet bidding is our most popular method of remote bidding. Our online auctions are live-streamed, which means that everyone can ‘attend’ the event and bid on properties of interest with full autonomous control over their bids. Some people prefer this to proxy bidding as they like to do the bidding themselves. When the auction commences, you simply log in to your EIG Auction Passport account to follow the auction live, and when it’s time for your lots, you can place your bids accordingly. We recommend this option only if you have a reliable broadband that can keep pace with a live stream.
Telephone bidding
If you still wish to control your bidding but don’t feel comfortable bidding online, you can register for telephone bidding. A member of our auctions team will call you from the auction studio, and keep you updated on bidding for your property of interest as they are received. You can then instruct them to bid on your behalf as the auction is happening. You can advise them on your maximum bid in the rare case that the call connection is lost, so that they can continue bidding for you even if you aren’t on the line to avoid losing your property.
