Graham Penny Auctions (now SDL Auctions Graham Penny) was established in 2006 by one of the Midlands’ most popular auctioneers Graham Penny along with experienced estate agents John Fearnehough and James Cockayne. The board of directors grew to four in 2011 when they were joined by another regional estate agent Andrew Parker.

Graham Penny Auctions held the title of East Midlands’ number one residential property auctioneer for an impressive 10 consecutive years and held more than 20 auctions each year across Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. During its first 10 years of operation it raised over £465m for clients and sold more than 4,800 lots across the East Midlands.

In 2016, Graham Penny Auctions was acquired by national independent property company SDL Group and was rebranded to SDL Graham Penny. The deal came only a few months after SDL Group acquired West Midlands-based CP Bigwood, now SDL Auctions Bigwood.

These acquisitions resulted in SDL Auctions total sales topping £150m per annum and making it the UK’s largest auction house outside of London.
