Life could be a breeze in a beautiful converted windmill

A beautiful converted windmill in Cheshire is expected to get bidders in a spin when it is sold by conditional online auction next month.

Life could be a breeze in Buerton Old Mill, Windmill Lane, Hankelow, Cheshire, a listed building which dates back to 1779 and was still in use up until 1880.

Now transformed into a stunning six-bedroomed home with four reception rooms, four bathrooms and a games/cinema room, the listed property is being sold by conditional online auction by SDL Auctions in partnership with James Du Pavey, with an opening bid of £540,000. The auction ends on Monday 8 April.

The accommodation is, as you would expect, spread across several floors. On the ground floor the main entrance hall features a curved built-in storage area and leads to a fabulous open plan living area incorporating dining area, sitting room with oil-fired cast stove and kitchen with cream fitted units, Corian work surfaces, quality integrated appliances and a curved larder storage cupboard. Also on this level is a WC with underfloor heating and a storage cupboard housing the boiler.

A lower ground floor features an impressive circular sitting room with six double-glazed windows providing panoramic countryside views, Apex glazing in the roof and a frosted glazed circular panel in the floor to deliver natural light to the basement below. The basement room is a versatile space which could be used as a bedroom, snug, office or studio.

Back in the main windmill building, the master bedroom is on the first floor, with a Jack and Jill en suite bathroom with access to the balcony. Two further bedrooms and a shower room can be found on the second floor and, finally, on the third floor is a shower room and a small staircase to the bedroom area on a mezzanine.

The property is approached by a sweeping block-paved driveway, with lawn and borders either side, leading to remote-controlled gates, through which is a large block-paved parking area. The gardens feature lawns, planted borders and a stone patio seating area.

A separate quadruple garage block has living accommodation above, subject to the necessary planning permissions, featuring a hall, shower room, kitchen/living area, bedroom, washroom and a versatile space with a wood-burning stove, currently used as a games room/cinema room.

In addition, there is a large garden room/potting shed which still retains the original workings from the windmill, and an adjoining 6.5-acre plot which is available by separate negotiation.

Jason Lee, national sales manager at SDL Auctions, said: “This unique building has been superbly and sensitively converted to maximise space and natural light, creating a superb family home offering a huge amount of versatility.”

Buerton Old Mill is in the rural village of Hankelow, on the outskirts of Audlem, which has a good range of amenities including independent shops, pubs, restaurants, post office, medical practice and church. It is close to the market towns of Market Drayton and Nantwich, which has a railway station, and the M6 is approximately 14 miles away.

Bidding for the property starts at £540,000, with the auction ending at noon on Monday 8 April. To arrange a viewing, or to find out more, please contact James Du Pavey by emailing nantwich@jamesdupavey.co.uk.
