Going going gone! In more ways than one

12 July 2013 – Graham Penny Auctions, the Midlands number one property auctioneer*, held its biggest Derby sale so far this year this week (Thursday 11th July) and secured more than £5m in sales and a 78% success rate on lots offered.

In front of a packed room – including the Homes Under the Hammer TV crew – Graham Penny Auctions sold 61 property and land lots from its catalogue of 78 entries bringing the total number of lots taken to auction in Derby this year to 270 with £20m worth of properties sold.

A highlight of the auction were the sales of five properties in Alvaston and Spondon which helped the auctioneers maintain its 100% success rate in those areas, not to mention a recently refurbished property in Torquay at risk of falling off a cliff which attracted national press coverage prior to the auction and sold for an impressive £33,500.

In particular, huge interest was shown in:

  • Lot 17: 543 Harvey Road in Alvaston – a three bedroomed semi-detached property on a corner plot which went to the auction with a guide price of £65,000+ and sold for £72,500
  • Lot 69: 100 Bedford Street in Derby – a three bedroomed semi-detached property which had a guide price of 78,000+ and sold for £99,000
  • Lot 76: Elm Dene, Main Street in Burnaston – a spacious, extended three-bedroomed detached residence which had a guide price of £240,000+ and sold for £304,000

Graham Penny, auctioneer and director at Graham Penny Auctions, commented: “It was another very positive auction and our fourth consecutive sale achieving over £5m in sales value. I’m delighted to have achieved a 78% success rate however this figure is likely to rise even higher in the next few days as we’ve already had significant interest in our unsold lots.”

Earlier this week Graham Penny Auctions announced it is to hold seven auctions each year in Leicester at the King Power Stadium with the first taking place on Thursday 24th October. The addition of the King Power Stadium to the existing calendar of auctions at Pride Park in Derby and Nottingham Racecourse will bring the total number of auctions in the East Midlands each year to 21.

Graham added: “Confidence in the property market is definitely increasing and with our 100% success rate on sales of Leicester properties so far this year we’re all very excited about expanding our East Midlands auction calendar into Leicester.”
